Numerus clausus

Applicants need to have a bachelor's degree in a relevant academic field or an equivalent foreign degree with good or excellent grades (German equivalent 2.5 or better). An anticipatory application during the final degree phase is possible.

Formal application is followed by a 30-minute interview on Thursday, 2nd August 2018 for enrolment in the winter semester. The date for the summer semester will be announced shortly.

Language requirements

As courses in the master's programme Cultural Studies of the Middle East are given in both English and German, proficiency in BOTH English at the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) C1 level AND in German at the CEFRL B2 level are required.

Additionally, proficiency in Arabic OR Persian OR Turkish (equivalent to at least 30 ECTS worth of courses), OR Hebrew (at least 20 ECTS) is required.

English language skills may be verified retroactively during the first semester. A certificate of qualification for matriculation (Abiturzeugnis or equivalent) may serve as proof of proficiency in English. Students with a certified B1 level skill in German may attain B2 proficiency by taking courses at the University of Bamberg.
